Literature Text

Feeble love poisoned souls always make such large statements,
Silly little claims of how their beloved truly "knows them".

How can that be,
When you are the only one capable of hearing the voice that speaks from within?

The very disembodied voice that whispers as I write these very words,
The empty voice that speaks every single thought that passes your mind.

I dare not even call it a voice,
For it has no sound or weight.

It is simply.... There.
It is always there, dictating the inner dialogue that is within your being.

Words that you have spoken, words that you have yet to speak.
Words that you wish to speak, words that you dare not utter.

Why, it even brings to life passing thoughts, conscious thought, subconscious thought.
The unconscious is also voiced once you allow the darkness of slumber to bring you to its lullaby land.

It knows of your deepest desires, your greatest fears.
It knows that which can bring forth emotion onto the blank canvas of your character.

The only question that I have,
Is just what is it?
What is this voiceless voice, these words flashing upon my brain, this never ending incessant empty chatter?

It can be rather tiresome when it simply goes on and on,
Nonsensical thoughts, ingenious thoughts, vacant thoughts, the list can go on forever more.

Is it a voice, or are they simply echoed words?
Is it me, or is it some being that resides within us all?

A faceless, nameless creature.
One that personifies our existence.

Why is it that some people can filter the ideas that flash through our consciousness because of this happening,
Yet others simply blurt out whatever first crosses their mind?

What is it,
And why are there barely any answers for this phenomena?

Do other living creatures have it?
Do cats, snakes, bats, horses have this inner dialogue?

Or is it something that only enslaves Homo sapiens,
Forever chaining us to near madness?

Do all humans have a similar dialogue for that matter,
Or is each one unique to the person it is within?

Do psychologically ill humans have a different "voice",
Or is it the "voice" that causes them to be ill?

Do deaf people have their very own unique mode of an inner dialogue,
Or do they have a similar "voice"?

And what of unconscious people,
Even those that have already passed on?

Is this "voice" the soul?
When we die, is it forever silenced to never again plague us with its chit-chat?

So many questions,
So many unlikely to ever be answered.

Even writing this is driving me to the brink of madness.
It is simply angering to be consciously aware of the "voice".

I find it rather frightening, however,
That no one will ever hear this inner voice of mine.

That perhaps we all have our own versions of this being,
And that we will never truly know someone because of it.

It's essentially debilitating to even try to think of answering these questions,
It's tiring and exhausting, and I don't know if I would be comforted by the possible solutions.

I simply wish I could determine whether or not it is peaceful,
The thought of when we die, the voice simply... Dissipates into nothingness.
This was written at around 1:30 in the morning on 17 July; It really isn't anything more than just thoughts that I am having as I lay here trying to let sleep take me. If you read this, I thank you and hope that you enjoyed!
